Answer Engine Optimization (AEO) — service offered by Dharmendra Singh Yadav

Being the Answer, Not the Link

A growing share of searches never produce a click. The user asks, the engine answers, and the source gets a citation rather than a visit. If your page is not the one being lifted from, you are invisible in that exchange regardless of where you rank.

Answer Engine Optimization is the work of making your page the one that gets chosen — in featured snippets, in People Also Ask, and in voice results.

What Actually Gets a Page Chosen

Answer extraction is mechanical, and that is good news, because mechanical things can be engineered.

The single highest-impact change is placement: the answer must appear in the first two sentences. Content marketing convention buries the answer after several paragraphs of preamble to increase time on page. That convention costs you the snippet, because the parser takes the clearest statement it finds and a competitor who led with it wins.

After that it is formatting. A question as a heading, answered immediately below. Lists where the answer is a sequence. Tables where it is a comparison. A single clean sentence where it is a definition.

What I Do

I start by auditing which questions your pages could plausibly answer and which of those currently have a weak or missing answer in the results. That produces a prioritised list rather than a general recommendation to write more.

Then the pages get restructured: answers moved to the top, headings rewritten as the questions people actually type, formatting matched to the answer shape, and schema added so the content type is unambiguous.

The Schema Part, Honestly

I add FAQPage, HowTo and Article markup where it genuinely fits. It clarifies what your content is, and AI systems make heavy use of question-answer pairs.

What I will not tell you is that FAQ schema will give you expandable rich results. Google restricted those in 2023 to government and health sites. The markup remains worth having for other reasons, and I would rather you hear that from me than discover it after paying for it.

Measurement

Before any changes, I record a baseline: which queries each target page surfaces for, at what position, with what impressions. After the work, the signature of success is impressions climbing while position stays flat — that is snippet capture rather than a ranking change.

Without that baseline the work is unfalsifiable, which is how a lot of this gets sold. I would rather it be checkable.

Who This Suits

Businesses with pages already ranking on page one that are not winning the answer box. If you are on page four, ranking work comes first — AEO is about converting existing visibility into being the chosen answer, not creating visibility from nothing.

Frequently asked

SEO wins a ranking position. AEO wins the answer box above it. The work overlaps — both need crawlable, well-structured pages — but AEO optimises for extraction: can a machine lift a clean, correct answer from this page and present it directly? That means question-shaped headings, the answer stated immediately, and formatting a parser can read.

Sometimes, and it is worth being honest about that. If your answer is complete, some users will read it and not click. What you gain is the position above every other result and the implicit endorsement of being chosen. The way to keep the click is to answer the question fully but leave the depth on the page.

Rarely, for most sites. Google restricted FAQ rich results in 2023 to authoritative government and health domains, so the expandable snippets largely stopped appearing elsewhere. The markup is still worth having because AI systems lean heavily on question-answer pairs when deciding what to quote — but anyone selling you FAQ schema on the promise of rich results is working from outdated information.

By tracking which queries your pages actually surface for in Search Console, and by manually checking the target questions before and after. Impressions rising while position stays flat is the signature of snippet capture. It is measurable, but it needs a baseline recorded before the work starts.

Faster than traditional SEO. Snippet selection can change within days of a page being recrawled, because you are not competing on domain authority — you are competing on whether your answer is the cleanest one available. Two to six weeks is a realistic window for pages that already rank on page one.
